IEASO Statement on Violence in Washington, D.C.

The following is a statement from the Illinois Education Association Staff Organization (IEASO) President Ann Bachman-McIntosh regarding the insurrection in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6, 2021:

“IEASO condemns the insurrection inspired by President Donald Trump and those that participated or supported the terrorist actions against our democracy on Jan. 6, 2021. All elected officials, including the President, who continue to spread lies about the 2020 election should be held accountable. These actions encouraged and continue to encourage radical Trump supporters to commit acts of violence against our great nation. We believe that many of these allies of the President are white supremacist, QAnon followers and racist. The events of Jan. 6 were a direct attack on our democracy and national security. We are calling for swift action by Congress to remove President Trump from office and ensure that he is never eligible to hold public office again.

We as union brothers and sisters must stand in unison to make our organizations, institutions and our country a place where every individual is treated with respect and dignity, to rid every aspect of our society from a caste system of oppression and racism and to stand up and speak out when we see or hear injustices.”
